I did the same. My doctors recommended that I not. Today, they are happy with my weight and blood chemistry. The USDA turned the food pyramid wrong side up back in the 1970s. Doing so without scientific evidence. People then demanded low fat food that tasted good. Take out the fat, put in the sugar. If you review the epidemiological data, one can see the inflection of increasing rates of obesity, beginning during the 1970s.
Blame it all on Ancel Keys in about 1980. His book The Seven Countries Study left out the three countries whose results didn't fit his theory. (Disgraceful) He meant to emphasise that saturated fat is harmful, which may well be true, but the message that came across was that all fats were harmful, and that it is they that cause Obesity. This is patently untrue, but it resulted in us reducing fats and substituting it with sugar, and in particular high fructose corn syrup, which clogs the liver with fats. This as well as constantly eating carbohydrates all day, keeps our insulin levels raised and together with the excessive calories is the cause of the Obesity epidemic. Together with all of the other Diseases of Civilisation..... Oh dear, where do we start to try to remedy the situation....
I was in metabolic ketosis for about 9 months (20 g per day max.), I was losing weight so easily it actually made me anxious since I had been overweight all my life.
I've been on low carb for 8 months now and I've lost 16% of my body weight. When I look in the mirror now I think "scrawny" because I've had a puffy face for so long.

No dirty Keto (no packets of mayo from 7-11 convenience store). Started take a supplement of vitamin K2 with MK7 available at some big box stores and pharmacies OVER THE COUNTER retail. NO Rx. Walk outside every day and visit a local dog park to laugh at the antics of the dogs, even in the rain, to lower my cortisol. Lost additional 20lbs and believe I have achieved the state of being metabolically flexible. I can now eat carbs all I want, IF and only IF I hike more than six miles in a day AND still maintain my weight or even lose a one pound. WATER with electrolytes is key for hiking and just plain old living.
What do you eat ? I'm carnivore and I can't afford all this cuts of meats , when there are some days that I need more food ,and eating more meat means, more spending next day on expecive meat cuts. Want to mix carnivor days with low carb keto veg.

People are so quick to criticise even though they can see the results standing right before them. Keto/Low Carb is the only way for countless people who have achieved success.
I lost a lot of Weight yrs ago on plain old low carb. 60g a day. I ended up telling everyone I went to weight watchers just to get them off my back. It wasn't just criticism, it was full blown attacks even though I had reversed diabetes in the process.

Yes back in the 80s Pritikin was one of "the diets". I did it for a short while but couldn't stick to it. I'm finding the low carb much easier to maintain. It's been 8 months now.
In my opinion, I feel the food industries haved mucked up the waters so much when it comes to these studies, it's hard for the average person to get the truth. People may have to try different diets and see which best suits them. If they feel better on one than on the SAD then go with that one. I tried keto and never felt better since my 20s, and lost a whole bunch of weight too.
If you have a lot of weight to lose, you don't need dietary fat you can just eat the saturated fat on your body, which is full of fat soluble vitamins A,D,E.
Beg your pardon for my ignorance of standards for enrolling participants in a study. Can prisoners be enrolled in nutritional studies; neophyte like me thinks compliance would GO WAY up.... Even pay the prisoners for the length of the study at completion. I was also in the US Army, I had zero choice of my food and timing while in basic training (first 12 weeks) I could eat all I wanted in the structured time morning and evening in the mess hall. During the day was water only! Seems to me one mess hall for 12 weeks in basic training would drive the study compliance # way up.... Two meal a day fasting, yes we were forbidden (my company only in 1982 Ft Jackson from even seeing the PX) for 11 of the 12 weeks. My Company set records for the physical exam at 12 weeks.

Sorry to hijack this video... Recently, I watched one of your videos on Low Carb Down Under and really appreciated the concept of Prescription Strength Keto. I'm different from most keto followers in that I came to Keto 5 years ago after my doctor told me I was prediabetic. I'm 68 years old, weigh 165 pounds and am a former road bike racer and still avid cyclist. I typically ride 6 days a week and burn somewhere between 1000 and 2000 kcals per ride. Riding this much is enough to keep excess weight off regardless what I eat, BUT does not avoid Metabolic Syndrome or Diabetes. One of the biggest benefits of being a keto athlete is far simpler eating strategy before and during long rides. Essentially, I don't have to worry about it... I just ride. I can see that your videos are targeted on those using Keto to lose weight. Would it be possible to create a video on the best keto strategies for someone like me? Thanks

We have a red meat, saturated fat fear campaign raging in Australia. "They" don't mind keto as long as there's no red meat, full fat dairy or saturated fat in any form. In fact one would probably need to live on protein shakes and avoid everything but salad.
Look up Dr. Nadir on Cholesterol. Insulin causes cholesterol to become dense and problematic. In other words, high carbohydrate and sugar with high meat intake IS dangerous. You can see it in the weight gain. But no sugar and low carb with mostly meat and eggs = continuous improvement in health. I've lost almost 55 pounds in the last ten months since starting. It really works. This is solid stuff. Try it.
Cholesterol is good for you it's in every cell membrane, the organ with the most is the brain. 80% of cholesterol used is made by the body for making testosterone, oestrogen, vitamin D and bile. Half of heart attacks occur in people with low cholesterol.
@@nickbardan3867 cholesterol has little correlation to heart disease, the biggest cause is diabetes, (a side effects of statins), obesity, drugs, smoking, low fat high carbohydrate (especially sugar) diet and lack of exercise. He never had blood sugar problems, not even high blood pressure. He ended up with clogged arteries. I've been trying to figure out what he did wrong ever since but can't figure it out. I'm on a low carb diet , mostly animal food but I'm not sure if it's the right way.
Fat is essential. Carbs are not. Now, I do better with less fat. I am old and insulin resistant. The liver is really never supposed to see dietary fat (true?). My chylomicrons dont empty before they get to the liver so the liver has to deal with that and it causes issues like excessive gluconeogenesis, pattern B LDLp and elevated triglyceride (like 120). Of course I am a fat adapted fat burner producing ketones. I did a limited trial of PSMF before my recent labs (Dr Ali) and my morning glucose and TG came down and I went to Pattern A (barely). Enogh to make me want to try it long term, but its hard to do.
The amount of misinformation is simply appalling and the health of millions of people (including myself) has been so terribly adversely affected by the dietary guidelines since the 1970s. People are now starting to tease the truth out thanks to people like, Dr Westman, Gary Taubes, Zoe Harcombe, Rob Cwers, and others - however for those of us born in the 60s and 70s in particular there has been decades of metabolic inflammation and damage - just because we followed the medical advice. I still hate going to my Doctor. It is still really hard to find one that supports correct nutrition.

And there's thin, lean people that have insulin resistance and diabetes too! You can have insulin resistance without knowing, for years! And carbohydrates are what causes it because they spike blood sugar, leading to an overproduction of insulin. And low carb diets are sustainable, for people who know what they're doing. If you don't understand how hormones work, then you won't know how to sustain any diet!
There's WAY more to life in the Blue zones than diet (even after you've corrected for the folks who misquoted their age ) so I always wonder about the motives of those who single out that one factor
It's funny how blue zones tend to be in areas of temperate climate, clean air, away from tourists and fast food joints. Plus when you actually see what people eat, it's often not what's reported. E.g. my blue zone Sardinian friend said his favourite food is horse meat and sheep's head, especially the eyes.

Same here. I have lost 60 pounds in just 5 months. I'd like to lose 5-10 pounds more. Any more than that I might have to add more carbs.

The short answer is absolutely do not stop eating fat it is very important for your health.
I lost 80lbs 2 yrs ago doing keto/low carb & have kept it off eating this way. My labs are all great.

I am around 5-10% carbs, that can vary from 20-50g carbs per day.

Technically yes but it's not sustainable long term
There are several fatty sources of protein (white/red meat/fish/seafood/eggs/avocados) .. just keep your daily “Total Carbs” to 20g or less. ✨

Fat is nutrition. Seed oils are a oxidized mess. Saturated fat is stable for cooking and is easily used by our cells for energy using ketone bodies.
Ahhh, food questionnaires, a sound basis for any dietary study.... NOT! Protein is necessary, fat is necessary. Carbs are not.
